Michael Thomas Modano was born on June 7, 1970 in Livonia,
Michigan, to Michael Sr. and Karen Modano. Mike laced up his first pair
of ice skates when he was seven years old and has never stopped skating.
At sixteen, Mike was drafted by the Prince Albert Raiders. With that move, he transfered to Saskatchewan, Canada, where he would complete high school and
pursue his passion for hockey. In Canada, he was able to sharpen his skills and
improve his chances for a professional career in the sport he loved.
His dream became a reality when he graduated in 1988 and was selected
by the Minnesota North Stars as their #1 pick in the first round of the
NHL Entry Draft. He played in Minnesota for five years until the franchise
transferred to Dallas for the 1993-94 season, creating the Dallas Stars.
Thus began the transformation of the city of Dallas,
from a football "only" town into a hockey hotbed in the middle of the great
Southwest.
In 2003, Modano became the Captain of the Dallas Stars team. And
the story continues . . . |
