Ceremony a hat trick for Modano

The Stars honored Mike Modano, but he said the privilege was all his.

Modano called his time in Dallas "the best 10 years of my life," as he was saluted for three milestones (1,000 games, 1,000 points and 600 assists) before the Stars played the San Jose Sharks.

By the end of Sunday's pregame ceremony, Modano looked like a grand prize winner on The Price is Right.

Modano received three Tiffany crystals, courtesy of the NHL, and an inscribed silver stick from Stars general manager Doug Armstrong. The biggest surprise was a custom-made Big Dog Chopper motorcycle, courtesy of owner Tom Hicks and the organization.

"My mom said I should just keep that thing parked in the garage," said Modano, who has never ridden anything more powerful than a dirt bike. Painted on one side of the motorcycle's gas tank was "1,000 Points" and on the other "1,000 Games."

With his father, Mike Sr., and mother, Karen, by his side, Modano thanked the organization for the patience it showed in him when he was the No. 1 pick overall in 1988.

He also praised former Stars owner Norm Green for "having the guts and faith to bring us down to Dallas, Texas."
