Just
in case you haven't heard, Mike Modano first tied, and then
broke Neal Broten's franchise record of 867 career points
on February 14. Mike said, "It was a special night. I had
a lot of emotions. Afterwards you think about everybody that's
been a part of it for 12 years. It comes flashing back."
Mike scored a goal and dished out two assists to push the
Stars past the Kings (4-2) and past a legendary record. Mike
is the all-time scoring leader (869 points) in the Stars franchise
history.
Mike
scored with only 55.9 seconds remaining to break a 2-2 tie,
and then he assisted on an empty- net goal. This gave him
3 points for the night.
Mike said, "When you're 18 or 19 you seem to migrate to certain
individuals, and Neal was one of those guys. I pretty much
followed him on his heels everywhere he went, how he played
and how he acted."
Coach
Ken Hitchcock said "[Mike] helped [us] win the Stanley Cup
in 1999 and now has 369 career goals and 500 career assists".
