[...] The Mike Modano Foundation will sponsor a gala fund-raiser Sept. 8. Here’s how you can get tickets or contribute to City House. The Mike Modano Foundation Presents Shoot For the Stars Gala, Sponsored by jcpenney on September 8 Charity Event Benefits City House and Its Efforts to Help At-Risk Children     Dallas, TX (August 8, 2012) – The Mike Modano Foundation will host a special gala event called Shoot for the Stars on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Convention Center in Frisco, TX. The gala, of which jcpenney is the title sponsor, will include participation by some of DFW’s top sports celebrities and media, and the popular sounds of one of Dallas’ best bands – Emerald City.   All proceeds from the event will benefit City House, which provides shelter and transitional living services to children and young adults who are in need due to abuse, neglect and homelessness.   “City House is the reason we are doing this,” said former Dallas Stars center Mike Modano, who is honorary chair of the event. “Last year there were nearly 67,000 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect in our state, and nearly 17,000 were right here in North Texas. City House exists to provide food, shelter, counseling, transitional living skills and most of all, hope. The Mike Modano Foundation is proud to be associated with City House. We hope that many of our neighbors will come out and enjoy a great evening for a good cause.”   Event chair for the event is Liz Johnson. Channel 8’s Dale Hansen and Dallas Stars Broadcaster Ralph Strangis will serve as emcees for the evening. The gala will include a pre-event online auction, a silent and live auction, a specially-prepared dinner by the Embassy Suites Chief Chef Mike Williams, dancing and an overall great time. The gala will begin at 6 pm and end at 11:30 pm.   “As a company founded on the Golden Rule, jcpenney has a strong legacy of giving back,” said Miki Woodard, vice president of philanthropy at jcpenney. “We’re thrilled to team up with the Mike Modano Foundation to help raise funds that will directly benefit at-risk kids and teens in our local north Texas communities. With proceeds raised from the Shoot for the Stars gala, more youth will be provided a safe haven at City House.”   “This past December, we had the honor of providing Mike with a tour of My Friend’s House, one of our three shelters, and the only licensed shelter in Collin County for children newborn to sixteen years old,” said Chey Reynolds, marketing  and development director for City House. “It was obvious that he was deeply moved by the children, their stories, and our work, and for him to come to our side and help us make this the biggest and best fundraiser we have ever done speaks volumes as to what kind of person he really is. He walks the talk, and one truly understands why he is so admired by those who know Mike Modano. We are also so grateful for jcpenney’s gracious support of City House and the kids we serve here in Collin County.”   VIP sponsorship tables seated with a local celebrity are available, as well as regular tables or individual seat tickets online at mikemodano.com and at cityhouse.org.
