“Why I created the Mike Modano Foundation”
My life has been blessed in so many ways, and at the center of it all was a wonderful home with loving parents and two great, supportive sisters. I was lucky enough to be given a shot at a happy, healthy life and a shot at pursuing my dreams. Unfortunately, not every child has the kind of support system and solid home life that I had. Countless children in this country, almost 14,000 every year, are victims of abuse and neglect in their own homes, at the hands of their own family members - - the very people they depend on for love and security.
I believe I have an obligation to share my good fortune and try to make a difference in the lives of others where I can. As a public figure, I also have a rare opportunity to speak out and be heard, which is why I’ve established the Mike Modano Foundation and made the decision to devote my time, energy, and financial resources to telling others about the tragedy of child abuse in our community. Through the Foundation, I hope to offer these silent, innocent victims an escape from the cycle of child abuse.
Child abuse is a learned behavior that can pass from generation to generation. It knows no economic, cultural, ethnic, or geographic boundaries. It’s not something that exists only on television, in the news, and in “other families”; it is a reality and it exists in our own community. You may not know it or you may not recognize it, but it is there and it is our responsibility to do something about it. My goal, and the goal of the Mike Modano Foundation, is to raise awareness and provide funding for organizations whose purpose is to offer education and assistance to children and families who suffer the devastation of abuse. Ultimately, it is my dream to establish the Mike Modano House, a safe haven and education center for the victims of child abuse where every child can get a shot at their dreams and a shot at a better life.

The Mike Modano Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit 501c(3) organization dedicated to raising funds to improve the quality of life and assist at risk children in the Dallas area. The primary focus of the foundation will serve children who have been abused (both physically and emotionally), neglected, and abandoned.
